Good Before Launcher alternatives should be compared with the feature you use, not the product label. Instead of filtering notifications, it emphasizes launch friction: selected apps can show a short adjustable delay, and optional stronger blocking is disclosed separately. Local tools and a drag-resize-layer home builder add more personal control.
Choose it if you want no ads, analytics, trackers, login, or cloud sync and do not need the notification-filter model that distinguishes Before.
Niagara for one-handed navigation

Olauncher is a sparse open-source text launcher with daily wallpaper support. It has fewer organization and notification features than Before.
Choose it if the absence of a large settings surface is the goal.
Smart Launcher for automatic categories
Smart Launcher 6 returns to a more visual Home with automatic app categories, broad themes, widgets, and search.
Choose it if leaving Before means you want more visual structure and app automation, not stricter minimalism. Check paid feature limits.
If notification filtering is the reason you use Before
Before may remain the best fit. Android's own per-category notification settings can reduce prompts without giving another app full notification access, but they require manual setup. Minimalistic does not claim to replace a notification inbox.
Open Settings > Notifications > App notifications and keep direct messages while disabling promotions and recommendations where the app exposes categories.
Compare privacy and payment separately
No ads, one-time payment, subscription, open source, and no tracking are separate properties. Read each product's current store data-safety section and policy. Test the core Home with optional permissions denied.
Before's optional notification filter and double-tap features use special access for named purposes. A replacement may ask for different access, so do not carry permissions over automatically.
Migrate the visible system first
Take screenshots of favorites, folders, hidden apps, themes, and notification-filter choices. Another launcher will not import all of them. Recreate favorites, test Home and search, then decide whether to reproduce folders and hidden sets.
Minimalistic is the strongest alternative here for profiles and local custom tools. It is not a notification-filter clone, and that difference should decide the switch more than the visual similarity of two text lists.
Test the three Before surfaces you may miss
Before users often build muscle memory around swiping between notifications, Home, and the app list. A replacement may use up for search, left for Settings, and right for Tools instead. Try those paths for several days before deciding that one is slower. Gesture direction, system edge navigation, and predictive Back should all be checked on the actual phone.
If you use Before's wellness widgets, write down the information each provides. Minimalistic can replace some needs with clock, intention, timer, weather, calendar, notes, and to-do blocks, but it does not promise the same unlock statistics or notification inbox.
