Gesture navigation feels delayed with a third-party launcher: what you can test usually has more than one possible cause. Treat it as an Android Home-app problem first, then a launcher-specific problem.
Reproduce the problem cleanly
Restart the phone, open Home, and repeat the action that fails. Note whether it happens every time, only after heavy multitasking, only after reboot, or only with a certain widget or gesture.
Check these in order
- Confirm the intended launcher is still the default Home app.
- Update the launcher and Android system components.
- Check battery optimization if the launcher is being killed and redrawn.
- Remove one problematic widget, icon pack, gesture, or live wallpaper temporarily.
- Test the stock launcher. If the same problem happens there, the launcher may not be the cause.
Do not clear data before you have a backup
Clearing launcher storage can remove layout settings. Export or screenshot the layout first. Reinstalling should be a later step, not the first reflex.
Know the safe exit
If Home becomes unusable, open Android Settings from Quick Settings, go to Default apps, and switch to the stock launcher. You can troubleshoot the third-party launcher without being trapped on it.
Minimalistic is one example of a third-party Home app. The same switching rule applies to any launcher: keep the stock launcher installed, make one change at a time, and know the path back to Android’s default-app settings before you start.
Most likely causes
Third-party launcher gesture animation behavior depends partly on Android/OEM integration, not only the launcher’s own animation speed.
Fix it in this order
- Test the stock launcher as a control.
- Set system animation scales back to default.
- Disable launcher-only gesture actions that conflict with system edge gestures.
- Update Android/launcher before assuming the hardware is slow.
Do not clear launcher data as the first step. That can erase the layout and hide the original cause.
