A low-screen-time setup for bedtime should make the right action easier than the distracting one. The phone can stay fully capable; only the default path changes.
Decide what the phone is for in this period
Write down the two or three things you genuinely need before bed. That might be calls, maps, music, a class app, a camera, a work chat, or a timer. Put those tools within one tap or one search. Everything else can stay installed without sitting on the first screen.
Reduce the triggers, not the useful tools
- Silence promotional and social notifications.
- Move feed-based apps away from Home.
- Use Focus mode or Do Not Disturb when interruptions are the main problem.
- Use a short mindful delay when reflex opening is the main problem.
- Use a strict block only when you need a period that is genuinely hard to bypass.
Keep an escape route for real needs
Do not block maps, authentication, banking, tickets, alarms, or urgent communication just to make the setup look strict. A focus system that fails during a real need gets disabled quickly. Keep essentials obvious and make entertainment slightly less convenient.
A launcher can help when the problem starts before the app opens. Minimalistic can keep distracting apps off the first screen, add a 3, 5, 10, or 15 second mindful delay, and use separate Work, Study, Sleep, or custom profiles. The normal launcher and mindful delay work without sending app-usage history away; optional device-wide blocking is a separate feature with its own Android permission disclosure.
Review the result after the situation is over
Ask two questions: did you reach for the phone less automatically, and did the phone still do the useful job you needed? If yes, keep the setup. If not, change one rule rather than rebuilding the entire phone again.
Evening-specific rule
Separate interruption control from app access. Bedtime mode or Do Not Disturb can quiet alerts while priority calls remain allowed. Then move feed/video apps away from Home or add a delay. This is safer than blocking the alarm, authenticator, travel ticket, or emergency contact path.
A useful result is fewer unplanned checks after your chosen cutoff and less time restarting a feed after you meant to sleep.
