The right Olauncher alternatives depend on why its sparse open-source Home no longer fits. Olauncher deliberately limits the visible interface. If you want more profiles, tools, folders, search providers, widgets, or visual design, choose a product built for that depth rather than a fork with one extra toggle.

Choose it if finding an uncommon item is the problem with a short fixed list. Review which providers you enable and the contact permission if used.

Choose it when one-handed speed and polish matter more than open source or a completely free feature set.

Choose it when you want a guided minimal setup and low-priority alert separation. Check the one-time paid boundary and notification-access disclosure.
Lawnchair for a traditional open-source Home
Lawnchair is a Launcher3-based Pixel-style launcher with grids, widgets, icon packs, fonts, colors, and search.
Choose it if the real issue is that text-only Home removed too much. Use the project's recommended stable build rather than an experimental branch.
What you give up by leaving Olauncher
More features mean more settings, a larger code and permission surface, and more opportunities to maintain Home instead of use it. Daily wallpapers and a short app list are easy to understand. A block builder or notification filter is not inherently better.
List the missing function before switching. If the answer is only "I want a different look," try a wallpaper and text settings change first.
Open source is useful, but it is not the whole decision
Olauncher's public source makes its implementation inspectable and gives technically confident users a way to study changes before installing an update. KISS and Lawnchair offer a similar advantage. That does not automatically make every build safer, faster, or better maintained. Confirm that the download comes from the project's official release channel, check when it was updated, and avoid unofficial repackaged APKs.
Closed-source launchers can still be reasonable choices when their permissions, privacy policy, update history, and business model are clear. Minimalistic is designed around local settings with no ads, analytics, login, or cloud sync in the current release. Its added profiles and builder are the reason to choose it, not a claim that every user needs more features.

Use KISS when you frequently launch contacts, shortcuts, or rarely used apps by typing. Use Niagara when thumb-friendly alphabetical navigation is the priority. Use Before when folders and notification filtering are the missing pieces. Use Lawnchair when you want widgets and a conventional grid without giving up open-source code.
Use Minimalistic when you want the sparse starting point to grow with different parts of the day. A Work profile can expose communication and documents, while Sleep can show only a timer, notes, and emergency essentials. The same launcher can remain plain or become a composed block-based Home, so customization does not require abandoning the calmer app list.
A safe comparison routine
Install one alternative while leaving Olauncher and the stock launcher in place. Recreate only six favorites. Test search, Home after reboot, large font, wallpaper crop, denied permissions, and app removal. Use Settings > Apps > Default apps > Home app to move between candidates.
Backups will not usually transfer because each launcher stores different models. Screenshots and a written app list are the safest migration record.
